Make sure you also listen to Andy’s original version of his car tune, "Building a Car."
As i’ve said before, It was amazing to get to write a song for Al Yankovic. I even got to go in and help direct Al while he sung! Not that there was much to direct, Al was so professional He came in with pre-made sheet music of the song (which he gave to me after the record).
Originally I wanted it to be sort of like an early beach boys song, but i ended up just using something pretty catchy that i plunked out on the guitar that I was immediately able to conjure up lyrics to. I ran the lyrics and song by Cole the next day, and he helped me rewrite them to be much funnier and fit more in line with the Banana Man’s character.
Here’s my demo version. Please forgive my singing.
the lyrics go:
- Fixing a truck with the neighbors,
- not a better way to spend some time.
- Hoping to see if they like me,
- using automotive savvy.
- Do a good job they’ll give me props,
- BAM, I’m asked to come back tomorrow.
- A future I see with them and me,
- best buds, hanging out forever.
- Board game Friday nights.
- Best friend pillow fights.
p.s. Al Yankovic is a super nice guy.
If you’re near the Bay Area this weekend, make sure to stop by the Alternative Press Expo and table #923 to congratulate Andy Ristaino on his recent Adventure Time Emmy. And buy a copy of Night of the Living Vidiots while you’re at it, too.
table 923. stop by if you please.
p.s. i will also be on the panel Ten Years of the Cartoon Art Museum on saturday at 1:45.
So not only was last night’s new episode, “Love Games,” the first storyboard contribution from former character designer Andy Ristaino, he also got to write a song for the cartoon. Take a listen to “Get over You.”
I was lucky enough to write the song “Get Over You” for the episode Love Games. Which I must say, not having written many songs, was one of the most stressful things i’ve ever had to do. It was based off a riff cole played on a guitar which i extrapolated on. I wish i could tell you what i am playing but my knowledge of chords and keys are not what they should be.
The Lyrics go something like this:
When I’m heatin up my lunch / Or delivering a dungeon punch / I can’t, get over you.
Your kiss is burned into my brain / Simon’s hair is cloggin’ up my drain / I just can’t, get over you.
I see your face all over OOO / Sticks to me like a coat of glue / I can’t, get over you.
anyway here’s the demo i made with me playing guitar and singing quite froggily. hope you dig it.

Andy Ristaino Breaks Adventure Time Emmy Drought
A lengthy round of deafening applause goes out to Andy Ristaino for winning the first Emmy Award in the 72-year history of Adventure Time. While he’s now boarding on the show, it’s his character designing work on the episode "Puhoy" that got Andy his well-deserved Individual Achievement Emmy.
Congratulations, Andy. We couldn’t be happier for you.
(Let’s see if the winning streak doubles with the “Simon and Marcy” nomination in the Outstanding Short-format Animated Program category at next month’s Emmy ceremony.)
Andy’s photo pilfered from the blog of the wonderful Aisleen Romano.
Andy draws good. (He’s a boarder and former designer on the show, so, yeah.)
here’s some more sketches from comic con.
Adventure Time storyboard artist/character designer Andy Ristaino is launching his own Kickstarter campaign for his Night of the Living Vidiots. If you’ve got the funds, how about helping out a brother. Just $25 will get you a signed book, so let’s head over to Kickstarter now.
Andy Ristaino here.
I’ve been working on a bunch of short form funny books in my spare time over the past 8 years and now I want to collect them into one book, entitled NIGHT OF THE LIVING VIDIOTS.
ABOUT THE BOOK
Sci-fi, horror, and comedy melted together and topped with a Twilight Zone twist. Darkly funny tales featuring mad science, gothic anime, TV zombies, kaiju, giant robots, monsters from the deep, and even a haunted sweatshirt.
here’s some Flame Princess dress designs for the episode “Vault of Bones.” for a change of pace, i thought it would be cute to have FP rockin’ short hair and wearing a 50’s poodle skirt type outfit. it ended up being kinda a mix between that and something Diana Prince would wear.
